The Living Loop Lab (aka L3) is a mobile research station traveling over 6,000 miles along America’s Great Loop—a waterway route that winds through 18 states and parts of Canada.

The Route
From the Gulf of Mexico to the Great Lakes and back again, we’ll travel a continuous loop through estuaries, rivers, canals, and inland waterways.
Along the way, we’ll focus on research and engaging youth in the science of it all.
The Boat: A Floating Lab
Outfitted with lab stations, sample analysis tools, and media equipment, our vessel isn’t just transportation—it’s transformation. Youth will meet us a schedule port events to learn to:
Collect water samples & ecological data
Observe, document, & share stories through media logs
Engage in guided exploration with educators and scientists
Collaborate with local experts and organizations
